District Administration Jalandhar geared up for smooth and hassle-free conduct of ensuing assembly elections, With Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Ghanshyam Thori, Commissioner of Police Naunihal Singh, and Senior Superintendent of Police Satinder Singh on Tuesday took stock of poll preparedness in the district during a meeting with the officials of civil and police administration. They asked the ROs, AROs, and their Police Counterparts to pull up their socks for ensuring free, fair and independent assembly polls in the district.Chairing a review meeting with the officials of all nine assembly segments, the DC, CP and SSP said that the elaborate arrangements were being put in the place to ensure free, fair and peaceful poll process in the district. They stated that with assembly elections are on the corners, several district level and assembly level nodal teams were being formed by the administration so as to carry out this mammoth exercise smoothly.Accompained by Additonal Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh, Himanshu jain, Joint CP Deepak Parikh, they asked ROs, sector officers, and their police counterparts to accomplish mapping of vulnerable polling stations by making personal visit there so that a detailed security plan could be chalked out for the deployment of requisite force there. 

The DC further asked officials from excise department to ensure daily submission of liquor seizure report in the prescribed format while directing them to constitute assembly level liquor monitoring teams as directed by the Election Commission of India. He catagorically said that any kind of callousness in this election duty would be highly unwarranted, thereby invoking strict action against the erring officials.Interacting with the EROs concerned, Mr. Thori asked them to dispose of all pending claims & objections filed by voters in a stipulated time-frame for the timely completion of revision of voters' list in the district. He mentioned that so far as many as 83029 forms have been received by the EROs, adding about 70733 (85.19 percent) were disposed of by the officials while 12296 forms are still pending with EROs, which must be disposed of in the given time-line. Reviewing the process of inclusion of first time voters (18-19 age group) during the revision of voters' list, the District Election Officer said that nearly 14,000 new voters have been enrolled in Jalandhar and undertaking in this regard has already been submitted by the all 181 election supervisors concerning all 1974 polling booths. He also mentioned that a total of 53 educational institutions have furnished undertaking with respect to registration of elegible voters while special drive was held across all industrial units to include their workforce as voters in the list.

They said that now when the wheels for assembly elections have been set in motion the responsibility of the ROs, and their police counterparts which were backbone of the entire elections, have enhanced tremendously. They said that the onus of conducting these elections in transparent and peaceful manner lies on the shoulders of these officials. They said that right from training of the polling staff to the finalizing arrangements for the polling day, the entire work should be done in a systematic and foolproof manner.They said that the administration has well oiled machinery which was already on task of completing this democratic process in a successful manner.
