DC Rajouri seeks stern action against illegal extraction of minor mineral

District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today asked the enforcement departments to step up vigil to keep check on illegal mining of minor minerals and take strict action against those found indulging in the crime.He was chairing a meeting to discuss measures to address the concerns of the public regarding illegal mining in the district.The DDC said that excessive and unplanned mining poses a serious threat to the environment and made it clear that stern action as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal would be initiated against the persons found involved in the illegal river bed extraction.

It was decided that joint check posts of the Police and Mining Department would be set up at ten locations to seize the machines found involved in illegal mining besides PRIs also be roped in to curb illegal mining in the district.He asked the concerned to ensure that scientific mining should be done in the district taking care of all the environmental safeguards.The DC further warned that any illegitimate mining activity in the district will not go unnoticed and action as a warranted under law will be taken against the culprits.The Meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Sachin Dev Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Tahir Mustafa Malik; ASP, Vivek Shekhar; DMO, JS Pawar and members of the district-level task force.
