Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today visited Shaheed Ghar at Qila Darhal where he paid rich tributes to the martyrs of 1947 who sacrificed their lives while defending the Fort against Pakistani intruders.  October 28 is observed as ‘Martyrs Day’ (Shaheed Diwas) in memory of the martyrs of Qila Darhal- the people, who fought with Pakistani tribesmen and repulsed their attack. To mark the day, a local meal was organised jointly by the Army and civilians, which was attended by the people from all walks of life. The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the stalls put up by the civilians there.Interacting with the families of the martyrs and civilians, the Deputy Commissioner said that the day reminds us of the heroic sacrifices of all those great souls who sacrificed their lives to save the people of the area from foreign aggression. He urged upon the civilians to carry forward the legacy of these great warriors."Our freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for us and we shouldn’t let that sacrifice go to waste. We need to respect their contribution and seriously fulfill our responsibilities towards the country", the DC maintained. He said that Rajouri is an important district from the strategic point of view as maximum areas of the district fall in the actual line of control and the public of these areas are brave and maximum youth choose armed forces as their career to serve the Nation. He also appreciated the Army for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace in the region and urged them to keep working with the same zeal for the peace, prosperity and development of the region.
