District Level Environment Committee today discussed modalities for finalisation of the District Environment Plan here at a meeting chaired by  District Development Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan. Among the others, the meeting was attended by DFO Rajouri, Arshdeep Singh; DFO Nowshera, Neelima; ADC Rajouri, Sachin Dev Singh; ACR, Tahir Mustafa Malik; GM DIC, Manzoor Hussain; CEO Education, Gulzar Hussain; ACP, Mohd Rashid Kohli; MS DH, Dr. Mehmood; DMO, JS Pawar; Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Rajouri, Mushtaq Ahmed; EOs besides other concerned members of the DLEC attended the meeting.During the meeting, detailed discussions on segregation and disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, biomedical and e-waste management, water quality management and noise pollution monitoring and other issues.

The meeting decided on the steps taken to control water and air pollution, implementation of new technologies to reduce the waste and pollution, besides preservation of water bodies, awareness on usage of dust bins, door to door collection of waste material and management of mining activities in the district.The DDC took feedback from the stakeholder departments and asked them to conduct a methodical study to identify the exact pollution level in the district to facilitate formulation of the Environment Plan as per the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT’s) latest guidelines and the local needs.He said that the plan should envisage the measures for improving overall parameters of environment in the district, including restoration of water bodies, widespread plantation initiatives, measures to curb use of plastic/ polythene, improving the disposal of solid waste, e-waste and biomedical wastes, community participation, strengthening of Green Clubs, soil and moisture conservation, water conservation, measures aimed at curbing air and water pollution and grievance redressal mechanism.The DC also stressed upon the District Level Environment Committee to meet once a month for concurrent evaluation of steps taken and effective inter-sectoral coordination to achieve the targets.
