The Rajpura Thermal Plant is all set to go to steam on December 8 2013, the birthday of Punjab Chief Minster Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, fulfilling his cherished dream of making Punjab power surplus in 2013. The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed satisfaction after reviewing the construction & overall progress report of 1400 MW capacity Rajpura Thermal Plant being constructed with the cost of Rs 9000 Crores in high level meeting with the PSPCl & NPL officials. Mr. Badal said that he was happy by the commitment shown by the by L&T officials, the company constructing  Rajpura Thermal Plant  to inaugurate the first Unit of Plant on 8th  December and 2nd unit on Baisakhi 2014. 

Officials of Nabha Thermal plant briefed the Deputy CM  that the work of thermal plant would be completed before schedule time as 90 % work of 700 MW one unit is complete and work for second unit is almost 80% complete; Railway linkage from Sarai Bajara Station to plant is almost complete. Officials said that coal supply deal has already been signed with Coal India. All Transformers are completely installed, cooling tower completed, Reservoirs for water storage of water for 21 days having capacity of storing 24 lac Quebec meters completed, Turbine set up work for Ist unit completed. Boiler has been hydro-tested.

Officials further said that Chimney, Pile Foundations, Switch yard foundations, Control Room Building, STG Building, Raw Water reservoir excavation/embankment works of the plant have been fully completed whereas the construction of Ash Dyke, Ash Silo, Coal Handling Plant, Railway Siding, Boiler erection, Clarified Water pipes laying, Bunkers, Plant Roads, RCC water system, Service Building, DCT, Mill bay, Electrostatic Precipitator was under advanced stage of completion

Officials told that work of laying electricity line of 400 KV for one unit is completed for second unit work is ongoing at full speed.  Irrigation officials present in the meeting said that work for widening 31 Kilometers area of the water distributry from Bhakra Canal to the Plant has been completed. 

Officials of Nabha Thermal plant briefed the Deputy CM that that 400KV Rajpura-Nakodar, 400KV Kanodar-Dhuri, 400KV Rajpura-Dhuri Transmission lines for evacuation of power are being erected by Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited. Speaking about the expansion plan of the project the GM informed that the Company has already signed a MoU with the Government for setting up an additional 700 MW capacity plant at the cost of Rs. 3800 crore. He said that with the expansion of plant, this plant would produce 2100 MW power. 

Mr. Badal said that “Without entering into arguments with critics I believe in delivering, as my work speaks louder than words. Mr. Badal said that despite of many hindrances created by the Union government our projects would be big success in making Punjab Electricity Surplus”. He said that in single Rajpura Thermal Power Project which is setup in the area of 1100 acres at present more than 8000 workers are working and this number would increase twice or thrice which is big boost for employment generation in the state and overall development of the area is visible.Others prominent present were Power Secretary Mr. Anirudh Tiwari and Chairman Powercom Mr. K.D. Chaudhary, and senior officials of the Nabha Termal Plant and L&T.
