Over the past two decades, there has been a monumental shift in how people access and consume video content. With the universal access to broadband internet, and now, due to the ongoing pandemic scenario, numerous platforms like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, SonyLiv, HBO Go have gained momentum and growing to prominence. These platforms initially became successful by catering to media-hungry audiences and fitting around their increasingly hectic lifestyles and, presently, owing to the ban in theatrical releases.Although not a household name in itself, OTT is the exact technology that made the streaming revolution possible, now more than ever! 

In this article we shed some light on the upcoming and highly anticipated movies/tv shows to watch out for.

1. Mumbai Diaries 26/11

As the title suggests, this all new Amazon original series will depict the scenario of the infamous 26/11 terrorist attacks on Mumbai, in 2008 and will be a heartfelt tribute to those who fought for our nation and against the terrorists with utmost bravery and true patriotism. It aims to highlight their selfless contribution towards helping and saving mankind. Directed by Nikkhil Advani and Nikhil Gonsalves, 'Mumbai Diaries' will feature Mohit Raina and Konkona Sen Sharma in lead roles, along with Tina Desai, Shreya Dhanwanthary and Satyajeet Dubey. The series plans to hit  Prime on Thursday, September 9.

2. The Empire

Marking the digital debut of popular Bollywood actress, Shabana Azmi, this Hotstar Specials show will revolve around a body with multiple faces and personalities, the life of an emperor, a rebel, and a survivor. This period drama has drawn inspiration from the epic Westerners show 'Game Of Thrones' and will be rolling on the floors on Friday, August 27, available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar in partnership with the filmmaker Nikhil Advani and Emmay Entertainment. Directed by Mitakshara Kumar, the show will feature some very popular actors including, Kunal Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Dino Morea, Drashti Dhami and Aditya Seal. 

3. Asur Season 2

After witnessing the previous installment to be a huge hit, the psychological thriller will be returning with yet another brand new season, and this sure will be as promising as before! With yet another intriguing storyline and interesting plot twists, this one is sure to keep the audiences glued to the screens and stuck at the edges of their seats, as the very popular and desirable duo, Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti, will be seen reprising their roles as protagonists yet again. Created by Gaurav Shukla, the show will be up for the audience to stream on Voot select, while the release date hasn't been disclosed yet. 

4. Hush Hush

This is undoubtedly going to be a superhit, as Amazon Prime announced this upcoming series in honour of the International Women's Day this year, to consist of all female cast and crew. However, the series is still working on it's title and the final results will be out pretty soon. Marking the digital debut of the very talented Bollywood duo, Juhi Chawla and Ayesha Jhulka, this highly anticipated thriller drama will also feature Soha Ali Khan, Karishma Tanna, Shahana Goswami and Kritika Kamra in pivotal roles.The one where different women will be voicing out their own stories from their very own perspectives and ideologies, 'Hush Hush' hasn't come up with a release date yet, but will soon be finalising the details. 

5. Fallen

Marking the digital debut of our favourite, the 'Dabangg' girl Sonakshi Sinha, this Amazon Prime series is yet another one, which remains tentatively titled as of now. Also featuring a couple of other actors, including Vijay Varma and Gulshan Devaiah, the film will be presented in collaboration of the filmmaker duo, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti's production house 'Tiger Baby' and Excel Entertainment. The directors' list also includes Ruchika Oberoi. 

6. Mai

This one if for all the Sakshi Tanwar fans out there, as they'll get to witness their favourite artist's exceptional acting skills and epic onscreen performance after a long time. Produced by Anushka Sharma and Karnesh Sharma's production house 'Clean Slate Films', the web series also features Vivek Mushran, Wamiqa Gabbi, Raima Dev Varma, Seema Pahwa and Prashant Narayanan, and is directed by  Atul Mongia and Anshai Lal.

The story revolves around the spiralling life of a 47 year old docile mother and spouse, who is forced into the violent and gruesome world of white-collar crimes and politics, when she accidentally murders a mafia leader. 'Mai' is all set to release on Netflix, on September 3.

7. Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein

filmmaker Sidharth Sengupta has partnered with Edgestorm pictures for this promising psychological thriller starring Tahir Raj Bhasin, Shweta Tripathi, Anchal Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Surya Sharma, Brijendra Kala, Arunoday Singh, Anant Joshi, Sunita Rajwar and Hetal Gad. Written by Sidharth Sengupta, Anahata Menon and Varun Badola, the series is all set to release by 2022, only on Netflix and will include vital dose of comedy along with a nail-biting mix of  storyline genre. 'Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein' will revolve around the life of a romantic simpleton who is stuck with some deadly life choices to make, with the daughter of a dreaded criminal falling for him and she's the one who can't stand 'no' as an answer. What will the guy do? Watch out for this one that is all about money, love and power. 

8. Masaba Masaba Season 2

Vineyard Films is all geared up to return for yet another season of this fun, lighthearted and all things fashion series, based on the inspiring life of a renowned fashion designer, Masaba Gupta. After season 1 stole millions of hearts with its brilliant storytelling and fantastic performance, this one promises to be twice the fun and entertainment. 

Featuring the real-life mother-daughter duo, Masaba and Neena Gupta, the show will be available to stream on Netflix.
