On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh interacted with the people of Punjab in a special virtual program. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ramvir, and other officials also participated in the program in a virtual manner at District Administration Complex Sangrur.During the program, Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh said that his government had launched a massive campaign against drugs which had yielded fruitful results.  He added that every Punjabi should contribute in the fight against drugs so that their children can be protected from the ill effects of drugs.On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ramvir said that the district administration was fully committed to make this mission of Punjab government against drugs a success.He said that drug addicts were being treated in the district through various OOAT  clinics and De-addiction Centers and these clinics were proving to be a boon for the treatment of drug addicts. He said that so far 14,455 patients in Sangrur district have been provided free medicine through OOAT Clinics.

He said that the OOAT and De-addiction Centers run by the Punjab government were providing medical aid to the victims as well as the services of expert counselors to strengthen them mentally against drugs.Mr. Ramvir said that the police officers have been directed to take strict action as per the law to curb the smuggling and sale of drugs in the district.The Deputy Commissioner said that under the guidelines of the Punjab government, the DAPO program was being carried out in the district to curb the drug menace and make people aware against this menace.  He said that the weekly campaign launched by the Chief Minister today to create awareness among the students of schools and colleges against drugs would also be implemented with full zeal in Sangrur district.He said that simultaneously Drug Prevention Monitoring Committees have also been set up in the villages and towns of Sangrur district which were working to create awareness besides curbing drug trafficking.The Deputy Commissioner said that a drug addict is also a kind of a patient so, the society should adopt a sense of empathy instead of hatred towards him.  He said that efforts should be made to bring the drug addicts into the mainstream.  The Deputy Commissioner said that with strong will power, drugs can be given up.On this occasion among others Additional Deputy Commissioner Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SDM  Sangrur Yash Pal Sharma and Nodal Officers from various organizations were also present.
