Expressing concern over increase of cases of crime against women in the country over the past few months, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member Parliament Bathinda said that the UPA government has miserably failed in providing adequate security to women thereby tarnishing the image of the country’s ethos.  Recalling the horrific incident of rape in the National Capital in December last year, she said that the law must be implemented in true spirit to avoid such crimes in future and the requisite seriousness in these cases should be brought.

Ridiculing the Union Government for adopting pick and choose in the suggestions from the Justice Verma Committee, Mrs. Badal said that this was the sad part that Union government took only those suggestions whatever they wanted by extending disregard to the rest ones. She also said that after December there were 40 more cases of rape taken place in the National Capital, which reflects the seriousness of the Government in implementing the laws in this regard.  Expressing shock at the latest incident of sexual assault and rape of 5-year-old child in the national capital, Mrs. Badal said that instead of taking some concrete steps to check these types of heinous crimes, the Union government was engrossed accumulating wealth through financial frauds.

Mrs.Badal, has emphasized the need to initiate collective efforts to safeguard the dignity of women and to curb the crime against women. She said atrocities on women could be averted with the joint efforts of every section of the society and its need of the hour to initiate collective steps in this regard. She said that everyone should respect the dignity of the women and this should be started from home and change in laws about dignity of women was also needed the most as crime against women reflects only the sick-mentality.

Referring to the recent visit of Rahul Gandhi to Khanna, Mrs. Badal said that the entire Congress Party was working on one point agenda of “grabbing power” they were totally insensitive towards the needs of the public. Terming the Congress as the “Party of sycophant”, she said that there were criminals ruling over the roost. She warned the people to be vigilant of the nefarious acts of the UPA government which was going to wreck the nation in the coming years. Lodging strong protest over the clean chit being given to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister by JPC in 2 G Spectrum, Mrs. Badal said that it was unfortunate that the Congress party has once again played with the sentiments of innocent people where as the entire nation understands the truth behind this scam. She accused them of shielding the criminals for their own vested interests. Even the CBI is being misused by the ruling UPA, slammed Mrs. Badal.

Earlier, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal released a grant of Rs. 1 crore 76 lakh to 57 schools of district Bathinda for the construction of boundary walls and Rs. 5 lakh each to 85 schools for the Art and Craft rooms. To promote sports activities in the villages of Punjab, Mrs. Badal released a grant of 1 Lakh each to 32 villages under Punjab Yuva Khel Abhiyan. To fulfill the commitment of providing safe drinking water to the rural habitats in the state, Mrs. Badal laid the foundation stones of about 16 rural water supply projects in Bathinda district.
