Neera Ranjan Tshering, Chief Post Master General, Himachal Pradesh Circle, Shimla called on Governor Bandaru Dattatraya at Raj Bhavan, Shimla, today.On the occasion of World Postal Day, the Governor said that postal workers have braved natural disasters and risked their lives in conflict zones to deliver not only letters but also essential items, medicines, food and protective gear for ‘corona warriors’ to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that today, the common man’s trust in postal services has increased and more people were taking their services. He stressed on enhancing technology in their services. He appreciated their services in disbursing social security pension to the eligible people at their doorsteps during the pandemic period.He also appreciated the new initiatives of Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle of selling products of women self-help groups through the post office and distribution of apples in selective cities with the help of e-commerce company named ‘Vayumart’.
The Governor released a set of twenty image postcards on birds of Himachal Pradesh and a picture postcard based on Himachali Dolls.On the occasion, Neera Ranjan Tshering detailed the activities of the postal services in the state. She said that Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle through its 2795 post offices is effectively providing postal services throughout the State. Under Social Security Pension, about 3.65 lakh pensioners of the state were being distributed pension every quarter through the post office, she added. She detailed that there were about 51.9 lakh different types of savings accounts in all post offices in Himachal Pradesh. Along with this, about 3.5 lakh accounts have been opened in Himachal Pradesh with the new post of India Post Payments Bank.Dinesh Kumar Mistry, Director, Postal Services was also present on the occasion.
