The ‘Back to Village’ programme has emerged as a ray of hope for rural people turning their dreams into reality with the Visiting Officers reaching the unreachable and tough terrains of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with a solo motive of empowering the under privileged segments of the society. “This unique initiative of present dispensation has created mass awareness about government programmes and policies among people, irrespective of cast, creed and colour in a quite new and innovative manner” said Syed Mouzam Ali Shah of village Teetwal, situated at zero distance from Line of Actual Control and about 200 kilometers from Capital city Srinagar. "It looks something new rather strange for me to see the governance at my doorsteps. I have seen 62 summers but never saw someone from the administration coming to my village like this to know my problems, asking me what I want to do for myself, my community and my village." Shah asserted saying that it was like a dream for me to see the administration in the corridors of my own place.Shah acclaimed that with the administration reaching the inaccessible parts of rural and remote pockets the people here have now pinned high hopes on the government for accelerated development of their areas besides a prompt redressal of their day to day hardships concerning their basic needs. He was optimistic about the endeavors of the government towards taking due care of issues and concerns of people in distress and agony assuring their complete cooperation and involvement in this ambitious mission of B2V programme.I just fell into tears today when I heard one Gazetted Officer, Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi, who was Visiting Officer for a Back to Village function in my village announced loudly that he is not here to thrust his ideas and opinions but he has come only to know what the people want and what they aspire for. It was quite gratifying and heartwarming to listen to him saying that " it is you, the inhabitants of village Teetwal, only you can suggest what you want, what you want to execute or develop in your village; plan is yours, priority is yours; we are here to facilitate you ".I was little bit excited, my feelings were aroused and I felt like the dream of my youth is transforming into reality. It was Back to Village Programme for me; a great innovative idea of the present government which translates words into action taking numerous historic and revolutionary steps. He said, like me hundreds of people are feeling excited by the Back to Village programme with the hope that things will improve gradually and a good change will take place everywhere in the UT.
