Construction of three sports grounds digitally launched in SAS Nagar

In order to channelize the energy of youth in constructive purpose and to boost the sports culture in the state, Punjab Government is committed to upgrade the sports-infrastructure, said Balbir Singh Sidhu, Cabinet Minister Punjab.Presiding over the district level digital launch of construction of rural sports- grounds, S. Sidhu informed that 750 sports stadia and grounds are being constructed in rural areas of the state at a cost of Rs.105 crore in the on-going financial year. Chief Minister Punjab has launched the first phase of the project whereby per block one sports ground would be built. He said that in SAS Nagar three sports grounds are coming up with one each in Daun Majra in Kharar, Barsalpur Taprian in Majri and Chadiala in Dera Bassi block.The Daun Majra ground would be developed in 1 acre at a cost of Rs.12 lac, in Barsalpur Taprian in 2 acres costing Rs. 37 lac and in Chadiala in four acres at a cost of Rs.50 lacThe play fields are being made keeping in view the acceptability of the particular discipline of sports. Generally these include kabbadi , hockey/ football, volleyball and cricket  besides an open gym and 400 metre running  track.To create soothing environment, thick plantation has been proposed along the periphery.The engagement in sports will keep the youth away from drugs and will build their stamina which will further help them qualify in police/army recruitment, added Balbir Singh Sidhu.
