Instant procurement of Lehra farmer's direct sown paddy crop assured by Sangrur DC

DC Ramvir also appeal farmers not to burn paddy stubble in wake of Covid-19 pandemic

The progressive farmers of the district have been reaping benefits of direct sown rice (DSR) as the Sangrur administration assured instant procurement of paddy in the grain markets. While divulging details during his visit to grain markets, Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Mr. Ramvir said that besides saving environment and input costs of the farmers, the moisture content of paddy crop sown with DSR method was also under permissible limits. He added that a progressive farmer, Bawa Singh, of Gaga village today brought paddy crop of DSR fields of around 6 acres in Lehra grain market which was procured within 2 hours as its moisture content was recorded under permissible limits. He said that Bawa Singh was also honored by the district administration for giving his contribution to save environment. DC also held a meeting with administrative officials, representatives of procurement agencies, commission agents and transporters for smooth functioning of procurement process.

Mr. Ramvir said that the progressive farmer did not burn any crop residual after harvesting wheat crop and sown paddy crop with the help of DSR method. He added now he has again taken resolution to not to burn paddy stubble and also adopt direct sowing method for the cultivation of wheat crop. He also appealed other farmers to follow the noble practice as smokes produced by stubble burning directly add woes to patient's health in Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, farmer Bawa Singh said that apart from saving environment, he has also reduced the input costs up to Rs. 5,000 per acre.DC Ramvir said that the district administration has been committed to procure every food grain from markets but the farmers should also assist them by bringing ripened crop to avoid any kind of difficulties. He added that all the arrangements have been done and Covid-19 safety guidelines will also be followed precisely during the whole process.On this occasion, SDM Lehra Jiwanjot Kaur, Chairman Market Committee Lehra Jaswinder Singh Rimpi, President Arhtiya Association Jiwan Kumar along with administrative officials, farmers and commission agents were also present.
