GDC Baramulla Organizes International Webinar on drug abuse

An International Webinar on “Understanding Youth and the Problem of Drug Abuse: Better Knowledge for Better Care” was organised by Department of Social Work, Government Degree College, Baramulla. The webinar was aimed at raising awareness about the social issue of drug abuse, recognizing it as a concern for our society.At the onset, Prof. Abdul Majid Chalkoo inaugurated the webinar and welcomed the resource persons and participants.During the webinar session, the participant deliberated upon wide range of social, biological, psychological aspects of drug abuse and terminologies used for the persons who are victims the  abuse.To combat the issue of drug abuse,  experts suggested  strategic interventions including developing collaborative and cooperative linkages between the various disciplines of health and social sciences.The session was followed by a vibrant question answer session where various concerns of youth and drug abuse issues including the associated stressors, stigma, rehabilitation and treatment options were discussed.The resource persons for the webinar were from various educational backgrounds and research experiences connected to the issue of substance abuse in Kashmir including Mental Health Professional Kashmir Life Line and Health centre expert,  Dr. Wiqar Bashir, President Green Kashmir Permaculture Trust, Amber Badyari who joined the webinar from United Kingdom, Dr. Mudassir Hassan Pandith and Mir Zubair Rashid.Meanwhile, Department of Social Work and NSS wing of the college reiterated their commitment towards the welfare of the society and proactively in addressing social concerns.
