Virtual Kisan Mela organised by Punjab Agricultural University was broadcast live at various locations in Sangrur district including district administrative complex and at offices of subdivisional magistrates. The Kisan Mela was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh which was broadcast live on various social media platforms. The link of the live video was shared with the farmers so they could virtually join the Kisan Mela. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ramvir, Chairperson Punjab Agro Ms. Geeta Sharma, Chairman District Planning Board Mr. Rajinder Singh Raja, Chairman Market Committee Sangrur Mr. Anil Gheecha, Chairman Improvement Trust Naresh Gaba, Director Infotech Satish Kansal, vice chairman PSIEC Mahesh Kumar Meshi along with farmers and agriculture department officials took part in Virtual Kisan Mela from administrative complex.  While addressing the farmers after the virtual inaugural session, DC Ramvir appealed the farmers to not to burn stubble after harvesting paddy as it could pose serious threat to lives of people amid spread of Covid-19 pandemic. He added that as Covid-19 is basically a respiratory disease, the smoke produced due to stubble burning could also increase the chances of lung infection due to reduced oxygen level in the air. Mr. Ramvir said that the government has been providing up to 80 percent subsidy on machinery which was helpful in the eco-friendly management of stubble. He added that the draw to provide subsidy has already been conducted this year and beneficiary farmers were in process to buy new machines.Meanwhile, Chief Agriculture Officer Jaswinderpal Singh Grewal said that apart from sharing technical experience to manage stubble, the experts will also made the farmers aware of the new techniques being introduced in other allied occupations. He added that a special session will also conducted to sensitise the farmers to save groundwater.
