Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh Tuesday said security forces conduct at least a dozen anti-militancy operations and wherever leads are perfect, teams on ground display full professionalism to ensure no collateral damage. He also said that there are there are inputs that Jaish-e-Muhammad militants are planning “major strikes” on security forces and to thwart such attacks, highest level of alertness is being maintained across the UT . Talking to reporters at CRPF’s training centre at Humhama on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony of a slain CRPF officer Kale Sunil, who was killed in an encounter with the militants at Pulwama early morning today, the DGP Singh said security forces conduct at least a dozen anti-militancy operations every day in Kashmir. “Wherever leads are perfect among the 12 spots, highest level of synergy is maintained to ensure no collateral damage takes place,” he said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) . Pertinently, this year so far 108 militants have been killed in various counter insurgency operations across Kashmir and majority of the slain militants belong to Hizbul Mujahideen. The DGP said that there are reports pouring in that Jaish-e-Muhammad militants may carry out IED attacks on security forces again. “On May 28, a vehicle borne IED was detected in Pulwama which was supposed to be used against the security forces. Timely action by the security forces helped foil the plan,” he said. “We are alert to foil the Jaish plans. Highest level of alertness is being maintained by the security forces on ground.” He said the motive of frequent operations is to stabilize peace in the region.

Asked whether Jaish men are having an expertise to operate US-made M4 Carbine as recently a Hexa copter laden with ammunition and a M4-gun was shot down in Kathua and one such gun was also recovered from the orchards Kulgam where a foreign militant was killed, the DGP said: “Majority of US made M-4 guns were recovered from slain Jaish militants which means they are expert in handling it. This is a multi-purpose weapon used in attacking the target from a distance. A few such weapons were recovered from Lashkar militants too in the past, but Jaish militants have this gun in large numbers,” the DGP said as per KNO . About the Srinagar operation where three including two local militants were killed, the J&K police chief said that DGP Singh said that the operation was delayed for more than two hours. “We wanted the local militants to surrender and for that we brought local elders and the family members of the trapped militants, but despite repeated requests they didn’t budge and instead opened fire,” he said, adding that “at times old militant doesn’t allow the new recruits to surrender and keeps on lecturing them no to surrender.”About frequent Ceasefire violations on the LoC both in Kashmir and Jammu region, the DGP said that the main motive behind CFV is to push in more militants. “Our neighbour is trying to push more Jaish and Lashkar cadre through Nowshehra, Uri, Kuwpara and Keran sectors of J&K. Our forces are alert both on LoC and the hinterland to foil all such bids,” he said—(KNO)
