Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori today directed the Excise department to take severest of severe action against any sort of liquor smuggling and bootlegging in the district.Chairing a meeting here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that any such activity should be dealt with sternly and stern action should be taken against the culprits. He said that exemplary action should be taken against persons involved in such actions including under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management and Epidemics Act etc. Mr Thori said that special checking should be further organised in the coming days to check liquor smuggling and bootlegging in the district.The Deputy Commissioner said that concerted efforts need to be made by the joint teams of the Civil and Police administration along with the Excise department at the Tehsil and Sub Divisional for the purpose. He said that the teams should work collectively for ensuring that the liquor smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor, if any, in the district was checked efficaciously. Mr Thori said that any such illegal act should be dealt with strictly adding that any sort of diligence on part of officer was unwarranted and undesirable.The Deputy Commissioner also directed the officers of the Excise Department to hold regular checkings and feedback from contractors. He said that this would enable sustained and focused effort against drug smugglers/suppliers/distillers adding that failure, if any, in this regard would be viewed very seriously.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Assistant Commissioner Mr Harpreet Singh and Mr Hardeep Singh besides officers of Excise department were also present.
