The District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, K. K. Sidha today convened a meeting of officers to review the progress of education sector.On the occasion, the DDC stressed for establishing of smart class rooms to speed up the literacy rate particularly among girl students and to improve the quality of education.The DDC instructed the officers of Education Department  to focus on extracurricular activities, in addition to  academics besides organise teacher-training programmes on regular basis and ensure textbook distribution among students.Sidha directed for providing quality mid-day meals as per the COVID-19 guidelines and ensure full attendance in tele-classrooms.He directed for construction of washrooms, ramps for specially abled school children in every school and besides also directed for completion of ongoing and languishing school buildings, boundary walls, providing of drinking water, toilet facilities in the schools.He also asked ZEOs to involve PRIs to ensure enrolment of all students and to organize special academic sessions in those schools which have shown poor results.The DDC also directed the officers for importance of cleanliness and sanitation within and outside school premises and added that regular cleanliness & sanitation drives must be ensured besides quarterly medical check-up of the students by the Health Department.

Earlier, the JD Education South through a PowerPoint Presentation highlighted the achievements made during 2019-2020.JD Planning, Deputy Director Planning, DEPO, all the ZEOs, Principals of the Higher Secondary & AEE works attended the meeting.  Later, the DDC also took a detailed review of horticulture sector and stressed for providing facilities to the fruit growers and directed for paying special attention in Horticulture activities with it being the backbone of the economy in the district.The DDC directed for providing every possible support to the fruit growers, providing of farm machinery, checking of substandard pesticides and to focus on high-density plantation which will be the game changer for the fruit growers.The Chief Horticulture Officer informed the meeting that 70 hectares of land was brought under high-density plantation this year and 600 crores revenue was generated by the orchardists of the district on the sale of horticulture produce.He also said that under Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) introduced in the district during October, 2019, 430 trucks of Apple worth Rs.30 Crore was sold in various Mandies of the country.The meeting was attended by CHO, JD Planning, DHO, Horticulture Development officers of Doru, Achabal, Shangus, Bijbehara and other field functionaries.
