World Tobacco Day : Shopkeepers urged to ensure hygienic conditions

On the occasion of World Tobacco Day today, various shops were subjected to intense checking in Block Majri and village Khizrabad by a multitude of teams led by the Senior  Medical Officer, PHC Boothgarh Dr. Dilbagh Singh. A total of 56 persons were also challaned for smoking in public places.The S. M. O. divulged that a sustained campaign is  underway in accordance with the objectives of 'Mission Tandarust Punjab' to make people aware about the disastrous effects of Tobacco and Cigarettes. Besides, the ANMs, C.  H. Os, Field Staff and the ASHA Workers have been directed to spread awareness in the 120 villages under Boothgarh Block  about the harmful effects of tobacco as well as  staying safe from corona virus by following all the precautions such as social distancing guidelines, wearing of masks and using sanitizers.Apart from this, it was also emphasized  that sale of tobacco, cigarettes is prohibited within 100 yards of the educational institutions and the religious places. The shopkeepers were also warned that the sale of tobacco  and cigarettes to the minors would result in imprisonment up-to 7 years and fine of Rs. 1 lakh. The shopkeepers were exhorted to keep the surroundings around their shops in  hygienic condition, Keep the articles in their shops fully covered and most importantly not to sell rotten or sub standard stuff such which can lead to diseases. Among others  present on the occasion included B.E.E. Vikram Kumar, SI Gurtej Singh, Jagtar Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Pritpal Singh and Constable Gurmail Singh.
