Continuing its spree to provide relief to the migrants by ensuring their free travel to the native states, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has sent 63 'Shramik Express' trains at a cost of Rs 4.19 crore for free and convenient travel of more than 75,000 migrants.The 62nd such train chugged off from city to Bhagalpur (Bihar) at 11 am today whereas 63rd chugged off from station to Rai Bareily at 2 pm. Both the trains carried 2400 migrants from the district who were stranded here during the lock down period. The state government on Tuesday spent Rs 8.10 lakh for the free travel of migrants to Bhagalpur whereas Rs 5.58 lakh was spent on free travel of the labourers to Rai Bareily amounting to a total of Rs 13.68 lakh.For this humanitarian gesture, the state government has spend a total amount of Rs 4.19 crore to ferry more than 75,000 migrants free of cost from the district to their respective states. These migrants were ferried in the state owned buses to the city Railway station where proper health screening of the migrants was done by the Medical and para medical staff. Before boarding to the trains the migrants were provided free food, water, sleepers and other things of their need which were required during the travel.The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal has already made elaborate arrangements for free travel of the migrants. The trains were being moved from the city station under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ms. Babita Kler and Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Balkar Singh. Apart from ensuring their free travel in the trains, district administration on directions of the Punjab government has ensured free transportation for migrants from the transit points.
