Ludhiana , 19 May 2020

To assist the migrants travelling to other states through trains, the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has started a dedicated call centre, through which calls are being made to all migrants whose names have been cleared by the District Administration. This call centre has been set up in the meeting hall at MC Zone A office near Mata Rani Chowk, here.MC Commissioner Mrs Kanwal Preet Kaur Brar informed that a team of 70 MC officials have been deputed for this purpose. She said that from tomorrow onwards, 12 trains carrying migrants from Ludhiana would depart for different states. She said that each train carries around 1200 migrants, who are selected on the basis of their registration made on government portal www.covidhelp.punjab.gov.in.She informed that once the registration is made and the migrants are selected, calls are then made to all the persons whose names have been cleared. She said that this call centre is helping the district administration to know about the actual number of people willing to travel to their home states. She said that with the start of industries, several migrants have returned back to their jobs, although they had earlier registered on the government portal. So to know about the actual number of people actually planning to travel, this call centre is proving very beneficial. She further informed that the Punjab government is paying for travel, food, water and pickup service from designated points. She informed that the medical screening of all passengers is being done after which, they are issued medical certificates by the District Administration. She informed that 10 trains departed for different destinations today, while from tomorrow onwards, 12 trains would depart daily. MC Zonal Commissioners Mrs Swati Tiwani and Mr Neeraj Jain were also present on the occasion.
