Lt Gen.TS Shergill (PVSM), Senior Advisor to CM Punjab appreciated the proactive role of Guardians of Governance (GoGs) in bailing public out of pandemic. “The GoGs have  emerged as State Government’s own response body to the current pandemic by rendering frontline services”, said he.Lieutenant General (retd), who oversees the GoGs  programme has constantly been on the move touring the state and motivating his men, visited Mohali on Friday. The dedication, devotion to duty and camaraderie of the cadres  stays even when out of uniform and if channelized properly it pays rich dividends, said he. He informed that the GOGs are all in the field handling various duties.Responsibility of  distribution of ration, management of migrant labour, various surveys and data-mapping, reporting the impact on essential services, distribution of medicines in the initial period of  lockdown has been shouldered by them.Besides, the dedicated cadre has enforced social distancing norms at many places especially the rural banks. Their service in ensuring  proper marketing of the all-important wheat crop has been of the highest order. Not only have they maintained social distancing in procurement centres, with their natural military  tendency to ensure justice they have performed independent audits, thereby rendering great help to farmers. Added to this, they are making people aware of the necessary  precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.Earlier, Lt Gen. TS Shergill accompanied by his OSD Karanveer Singh met Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and sought  feedback on to other areas where the services of GoGs may be utilized since the mandi operations are close to completion.
