With a recovery rate of 50% and zero mortality, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Kulgam till now is 09. Out of these, 04 have recovered and 05 are on the path of recovery in the isolation ward of District COVID Hospital Kulgam. Apart from them, there are three positive cases which fall under the revenue jurisdiction of Anantnag district, but are taken care by the medical administration Kulgam. Among these three positive cases, one has already recovered and two are in isolation ward at District COVID Hospital Kulgam.With a total intake capacity of 700, the district has eleven COVID wellness centres, 1 COVID centre and 01 COVID hospital which has 50 beds as intake capacity.While giving the details, the Deputy Commissioner informed that till now the total number of swabs taken and sent for testing in the district is 2013, out of which 09 have been declared as positive. Discussing the status of returnees, Mr. Showkat Aijaz said that about 3975 persons including students and labourers, from various parts of the country, have returned to the district. As a matter of protocol they have been housed in 109 centres which mostly comprise of school buildings and other government infrastructure.The administration has appointed a supervisory officer for each 109 centres to monitor and supervise the quarantine facilities of these inmates. 

Among the returnees a total of 873 swabs have been taken for the purpose of testing and as of now, the results of 412 samples have been declared negative and the result of remaining 461 swabs are still awaited. To ensure the wellbeing of the inmates, regular health checkups are conducted and also adequate supplies of food and other requirements are being provided.Regarding the provision of essential supplies, the District Administration has distributed ration of 21424 quintals under NFSA scheme, 4000 quintals under JKFES and 1975 quintals under PMGKAY (with 5kgs of rice and 1 kg of pulses per households) for the month of April & May.A help desk to receive calls from people with enquiries and grievances has been established in DC office.With Naikpora, Sopat, K. B Pora, Hawoorah and Chekpora being declared as ‘Red Zones’, special attention is being provided to the people living in these zones, in terms of prompt health services and supply of essentials.  The District Administration has prioritised the testing of pregnant ladies in these zones who were near their expected delivery date to ensure their well being.In addition to these measures more than 3 lakh masks have been distributed in the district and an intense fumigation drive has been carried out throughout the district particularly in ‘Red zone’ areas.Mr Showkat Aijaz said that a concerted effort is being made to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the district and has made a sincere appeal to the people for maintaining social distancing and help to break the chain.
