In a major succor to around 6000 migrants from the city, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was spending Rs 30.94 lakhs for free travel of these migrant labourers to their native states via special ‘Shramik Express’ trains.The fourth such train, within less than 24 hours, was run  from the city Railway station in the presence of Lok Sabha Member Chaudhary Santokh Singh, MLA Mr. Rajinder Beri, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Balkar Singh and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurmeet Singh. As the train for Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) left the city station the elated migrants expressed their gratitude towards the Punjab government and the district administration by cheerfully waiving off towards them.Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha MP said that Punjab government led by has extended a helping hand to the migrants by assuring free travel to them. He said that till now four trains have been left from the district including one to Daltongunj (Jharkhand), Gajipur and Banaras (Uttar Pradesh), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh). Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that one such train would to Ayodhya later in the night.The Lok Sabha MP said that the trains with the capacity of 1200 passengers each were running from the city station and to ensure free travel for the migrants the state government was bearing the entire cost. He said that Captain government has spend Rs 7.12 lakh for free travel of all migrants in train to Daltongunj, Rs 6.59 lakh for Gazipur and Banaras, Rs 5.22 lakh for Lucknow and Rs 6.24 lakh for Gorakhpur. Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that for Ayodhya the state government would be spending Rs 5.76 lakh adding that total amount of Rs. 30.94 lakh has been spent so far by the state government.The Lok Sabha MP said that said that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has sanctioned Rs 35 crore, in the first phase, towards its share of the migrants’ cost of transportation by the Indian Railways. He said that the administration has received the amount from the state government which was being paid to the Railways directly for providing tickets to the registered passengers thereby enabling them to go to their native states free of cost.
