A one day UGC-SAP sponsored national seminar on “Ecofriendly Approaches for Environment Protection” was organized by the Department of Zoology of Guru Nanak Dev University. Dr. Satwinder Kaur, Head, Department of Zoology, welcomed the guests and said that such seminars play an important role in sensitizing the students and society for protecting the environment.Dr. K. S. Kahlon, Registrar, GNDU in his presidential address pressed on the need for conservation of natural resources as our existence is dependent on them. Dr. Renu Bhardwaj, Dean Life Sciences stressed on the need for adopting sustainable practices in our day to day life. In the first session of the seminar, Dr. A. K. Bhardwaj from wildlife Institution of India, emphasized on the community participation for conservation of biodiversity and maintenance of ecosystem. In the second session, Dr. S.S. Narwal, former professor in HAU, Hissar highlighted the role of allelochemicals as safe and eco friendly pest control agents. In the last session, Dr. Balwinder Singh, former Director Research, PAU, Ludhiana spoke about the problem of pesticide residue in food otems and the need to reduce the use of pesticides by adopting integrated pest management strategies. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks to the resource persons and participants.
