To enhance the amount of social security pensions from Rs.750 to Rs.1500 per month is under consideration of the government, apprised Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Punjab to the Legislative Assembly today.Responding to the question of MLA Mr. Pawan Kumar Tinu and MLA Mr. Baldev Singh Khaira during the question hour on the last day of the Budget session, Mrs. Chaudhary said that amount of the monthly pensions has been enhanced from Rs.500 to Rs.750 per month from July 2017 under the Old Age, Widow, Handicapped Pension Schemes by the government. She informed that proposal to increase the pension amount from Rs.750 to Rs.1500 per month is under consideration of the government.The minister said that Congress was promised to provide the pension to the tune of Rs.1500 per beneficiary per month under the old age, widow and divyang scheme in its election manifesto. “The previous Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP government had kept the pension amount Rs.250 for the consecutive 9 years and enhanced the amount to Rs.500 during the election-bound last year”, she said, adding that immediately after the formation of the Congress government in the state, pensions amount was enhanced to Rs.750. She said that Congress government was committed to fulfill its all promise made to the public.
