Public Works Minister Punjab Vijay Inder Singla, on Sunday, said that around 3,362 km rural link roads will be upgraded across the state to improve the approachability of villages to the markets. He added that under the 3rd phase of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the rural link roads will be widen from 10 feet to 18 feet in upcoming 5 years and the first project of 1,000 km roads will be sent to the Union government soon. He added that some leaders falsely claimed that they have got approved the rural link roads of the area from the Union government, however, the proposal of these roads is yet not sent for approval by Punjab Government. The cabinet minister informed that under the PMGSY, the state governments select roads required to be upgraded and send the projects to the Union Government for financial approvals. He added that the selection process of these 3,362 km long roads was in final stage and the initial project of upgradation of 1,000 km roads will be sent to centre in March only. He appealed to people to completely reject the bogus claims of these leaders being circulated by them or their men on the social media platforms.Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is committed to provide better basic facilities to the citizens of the state. He added that the widening of rural link roads will prove beneficial for the farmers as it would improve their accessibility to the markets. He added that apart from easy commuting, the widening of roads will also enhance the safety of the travelers
