In a major relief to commuters, the Chairman of National Highways Authority of India Mr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu today gave nod for survey for widening of Railway Over Bridge at PAP for stream lining movement of traffic on Rama Mandi-PAP chowk flyover. The Chairman, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, today inspected the entire stretch from Phagwara to PAP flyover in around two hours for solving the chronic problem which has paralysed the smooth and hassle free movement of traffic on the entire stretch. After the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police apprised the Chairman about the hardships being faced by the people in wake of faulty planning in the stretch of National highway.Immediately swinging into action, the Chairman ordered the NHAI officers to immediately prepare a detailed plan report for widening of the PAP Railways Overbridge to provide direct connectivity to the traffic from city moving towards Amritsar and Jammu. He said that the project should be conceived and executed in a highly professional and time bound manner. Mr Sandhu categorically said that there was no dearth of funds for this project of utmost public importance. The Chairman also inspected the Rama Mandi flyover and saw the point where the traffic merging from Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Jalandhar was creating a traffic bottleneck. He immediately asked the NHAI officers to resolve this issue so that commuters do not face any sort of issue. At the Dakoha Railway crossing the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police apprised the Chairman that paucity of land was biggest hurdle in the construction of the proposed Railway Under Bridge. They informed the Chairman that NHAI has vacant stretch of land at the point and if the alignment of road was shifted by merely five metres than this issue could also be resolved. They said that the Public Works Department of state government was constructing this Railway Under Bridge. Acceding to the demand the Chairman asked the officers Of NHAI to jointly assess the problem and ensure its workable solution in the coming days.On request of Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police the Chairman also asked the NHAI officers to immediately start the work for removing the 18 traffic black spots on NH in district jalandhar. He said that this work must be completed at the earliest for safeguarding the lives of common people. Mr Sandhu also ordered the NHAI Officers to provide proper lighting arrangements and sign boards on both PAP and Rama Mandi over-bridges.The Chairman also directed them to redesign the drainage system on both sides of road to remove the bottle-necks and at the same time to widen the service lanes. He ordered to provide safe and smooth entry and exit points. Mr Sandhu also said that in order to expedite the work on widening of the PAP and all the remaining issues the work to oversee this project would be assigned to Project Director Jalandhar instead of Project Director Ambala. On the occasion Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Naresh Dogra, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr Rahul Sindhu, Assistant Commissioner Police Mr HS Bhalla, Executive Engineer Mr Gurmukh Singh, SDO Mr Mandeep Singh and others.
