In order to mitigate traffic congestion in Ganderbal town District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal today convened a meeting to discuss measured for streaming the traffic movement in the district.The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal, ADC Ganderbal, Dy SP Traffic, Ex-En R&B, ARTO Ganderbal, EO Municipality and Tehsildar Ganderbal.During the meeting threadbare discussions were held on various issues related to the traffic regulation and measures need to be taken de-congest vital roads leading to schools and market areas of the town.The meeting also discussed road safety, road markings, identification of blind spots and divergent points at different routes, construction of crash barriers and regulations of public as well as private transport.The DDC directed the concerned line departments to identified black spots, installation of signages, painting of roads at appropriate spots, generation of awareness about road safety measures.Meanwhile, Municipal Committee authorities were asked to remove vendors from roadsides and footpaths particularly in congested main Beehamamarket. He further directed the Executive Officer Municipality to intensify anti-encroachment drive to clear the road sides for hassle-free pedestrian movement.He further urged the concerned authorities to activate all parking places which are already identified besides making efforts for identification of more patches of land to be developed as parking areas especially in and around the main town.Later, the DDC convened another meeting to discuss the availability and identification of suitable patches of land for play fields in the Panchayats Halqas of district where land is yet to be identified for play fields.The concerned Tehsildars briefed the DDC about the status of land identified for play fields in their respective Tehsils.The said meeting was attended by ACD, DPO, Tehsildars and BDO’s of the district.
