In order to curb the menace of Polythene, its hazards effects on environment and contamination of resources anti-plastic and anti-polythene drive was organized by district administration Bandipora, here today.The daylong drive was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, from Mini Secretariat Bandipora.The programme was also attended by the Joint Director Planning and other concerned officers.Speaking on the occasion, Mirza said that the objective of the drive is to spread awareness among the masses regarding the harmful impacts of plastic and polythene on environment.He said that Pollutants like plastic and polythene are of global concerns and the people should use alternate biodegradable bags in order to prevent the contamination of resources.On the occasion, jute bags with slogans of “avoid single use plastics and say no to plastic” were distributed by the district administration among the people.The DC urged upon the agencies to use multipronged strategies including raids on shopkeepers, confiscation of SUP in the market and surprise inspections to curb the polythene and plastic accumulation in the surroundings.
