The third day (Wednesday) of the fifth edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST), organised by Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS), was marked by fierce competitions in table tennis and volleyball. 

Volleyball 

The volleyball match between Jordan’s De La Salle Club and Syrian Taldara Club kept the viewers at the edge of their seats. The Syrian team upped bucked up after a weak start in their debut game and almost snatched the first set from the Jordanian club. The first set ended 25-21.However, the Syrian team persevered and ended the second set to their advantage with a 25-19 score. The third set was thriller to the last minute with Jordan’s De La Salle Club taking the game into two extra sets before finally edging the Syrian team out, 25-23.Taldara Club sportswomen pushed themselves to the limit to regain control of the game and secured the next set with a 25-22 at the whistle. However, De La Salle Club went into a full-throttle and ended the final set to their advantage crushing the Syrian team with a 15-1 set, winning the championship-level game.With a 3-2 set win, the Jordanian team will face off with Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club on Friday. 

Table tennis

Meanwhile, the inaugural table tennis competitions held on Tuesdaypitted five clubs against each other in two rounds of matches held at SWS.Algeria’s Association des Sports Féminins secured their first win after their player KasasiKateba won a 3-set match against Kuwait’s Al Fatat Sports Club athlete Mariam Salman. Meanwhile, Algerian player NasiriMleesawon 3 – 1 against KuwaitiMonwa Al Shemari. Kuwaiti Sheikha Adnan won their club’s only match, finishing her game against BinyamenaKhawla, 3–0. However, KasasiKateba cemented her club’s achievements by winning her next match 3-0 against  Monwa Al Shemari. The final game result was 3–1 for Algeria’s Association des Sports Féminins.The Algerian team continued their day’s achievements by winning 3-0 against KSA’s Riyadh Sports Club.Meanwhile, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club lost 1–3 against Bahrain’sA'Ali Club. However, in the second round, they secured their first win against KSA’s Green Jeddah Club, with a final score of 3-0. The tournament concludes on February 12.
