A daylong awareness programme on air, water pollution and Solid waste Management under Swachhta Action Plan was today held at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall Budgam.The programme was organized by J&K Pollution Control Board Budgam in collaboration with District Administration Budgam.The District Development Commissioner Budgam Tariq Hussain Ganaie was chief guest on the occasion.The DDC urged for adopting proactive measures to curb water and air pollution. He emphasized on putting strenuous efforts to save forest cover under mission mode and focus on massive plantation in the affected area. He said that it would prove disastrous to our environment if we fail to protect our forest cover.Stressing on the need to establish Solid Waste Management plants in the district, he directed BDOs and EOs to identify landfill sites for establishing the plants in every block, besides ensuring proper waste collection, segregation and disposal.The DDC called upon the Urban Local Bodies to introduce innovative methods to tackle issues hampering solid waste management system in the district.On the occasion, the students presented a skit on the lackadaisical attitude of the people toward the protection and conservation of water bodies. Regional Director J&K PCB, Mohammad Rafi, DFO Budgam Mohammad Ashraf, ARTO Mubashir Jan, Chairman NSPWRWAF, Nazir Be-Nazir, DO PCB Budgam Fayaz Ahmad were present on the occasion.
