Horticulture Department today kick started the flagship programme “Backyard Horticulture” under the scheme CAPEX, in the office Complex here today.Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Ashok Kumar was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the programme on the occasion.More than 100 farmers from different panchayats of the district participated in the programme.While speaking on the occasion, the ADDC appreciated the efforts of Horticulture department for initiating such fruitful programmes. He also impressed upon the farmers to take up maximum benefits of the departmental schemes to enhance their farm income thereby improving their standard of livings.Chief Horticulture Officer, Brij Vallabh Gupta informed that under the programme at least three fruit plants amounting to Rs. 200/- will be distributed to the famers at 90% subsidy covering 10,000 households in District Udhampur. He impressed upon the farmers to plant these fruit plants in the backyard to preserve environment and increase green cover.Meanwhile, District Level-SMS Satvir Singh Raina educated the farmers about planting and cultural practices to be adopted during the plantation of fruit plants.Horticulture Development Officer, Majalta Amit Saraf imnformed the farmers about insect-pest and diseases of various fruit crops and their control measures to be adopted.Among others, District Information Officer Er. Sajad Bashir Somberia besides other officials of concerned department were present on the occasion.
