Expressing anguish and concern over ‘fast deteriorating security situation in Kashmir’, the Peoples Democratic Party today strongly condemned the attack on a police patrol in Sopore. In a statement here a spokesman of the party alleged that the state government has miserably failed in securing lives of the people who are getting killed every day at the hands of one or the other gunman.
The spokesman expressed deep condolences at the death in the shoot out of an elderly civilian, Sanaullah Dar. He said the number of mounting tragedies in Kashmir is devastating families and one more has been added to them.Praying for the life of the constable Ashok Kumar and another civilian who got injured in the incident, the spokesman said the PDP believes that no objectives would ever be served by violence and the devastation caused in last 23 years has made that amply clear. The spokesman said though the entire population of the state believes in peaceful methods of expression, the present government has unfortunately closed peaceful options. It would be tragic if in their frustration with the failures of the government the youth were again to pick up arms, he said and expressed hope that good sense would prevail and violent methods abandoned once and for all.
