Gandhi Global Family J&K paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 73rd martyrdom day at Dewan-E-Aam, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu where thousands of people from all walks of life participated.The programme started with a symposium on topic – Mahatma 150 where students from 6 colleges and more than 50 government and private schools spoke on the life & legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Later several students sang favorite bhajans of Bapu.On the occasion, The Executive Committee of Gandhi Global Family presented Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal to Santoor Maestro and Bollywood Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori for this contribution in promoting classical music.Earlier Chief Conservator of Forests Sameer Bhatia was honoured with GGF Souvenir by the DGP for his contribution in protection of environment by planting lakhs of saplings in between 1992 to 2019.In his address, President GGF J&K Padmashri Dr S P Varma informed the gathering that similar programs were being conducted on the same day by all the international, national and local units of the organisation. He encouraged youth to imbibe the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi in their daily life. Later two minutes of silence & oath ceremony was also conducted.
Major General (Rtd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Advisor GGF J&K recalled his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi way back in 1947 in Kashmir while he was serving in Indian Army as Second Lieutenant. He advised youth to always speak the truth and make India an exemplary nation.On the occasion, DGP Dilbag Singh termed Mahatma Gandhi as the greatest messenger of peace on this planet. He applauded the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi in promoting peace in the South Asia. He further emphasised on the role of our future generations in making JK as a peace loving region of this great nation by following his ideology.Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma appreciated the role of GGF in consistently promoting the Gandhian values from more than thirty years. He said that together we can bring the much needed change in our society.Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr Sanjeev Verma, senior officials of Para Military Forces, senior bureaucrats, former ministers, leaders of various political parties, Principals of various colleges and schools, NGOs, eminent Journalists, students and general public participated in huge numbers enthusiastically.
