Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to further enhance the activities under Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) and Buddy campaign in district to make it completely drug free.Chairing a meeting here at District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that these first of its kind campaigns were aimed at eradicating the menace of drugs from the state. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was committed for making Punjab a drug free state. Me Sharma that the supply lines of drugs have already been snapped by the Police and to check the demand of drugs these awareness campaigns were playing a key role.The Deputy Commissioner said that these campaigns need to be implemented in the district In a sustainable manner to wean away the menace of drugs. He said that it would help in channelising the unbounded energy of youth in a positive direction. Mr Sharma asked the SDMs to hold more and more activities under these campaigns so that awareness could be further disseminated at the grass root levels.The Deputy Commissioner further said asked the SDMs to tie up with their Police counterparts for implementing this campaign more efficaciously. Mr Sharma said that he would personally monitor the progress of these flagship schemes of the state government. He asked the officers to implement these schemes diligently as a real service to the people of state.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioners Mr Kulwant Singh and Mr Jasbir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Harpreet Singh Benipal, Superintendent of Police Mr Sarabjeet Singh Bahia, Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr Amit Kumar, Dr Sanjeev Sharma and Dr Jai Inder Singh, Extra Assistant Commissioner Mr Amandeep Singh, Civil surgeon Dr Gurinder Chawla and others were also present.
