Punjab government releases more than Rs 28.5 crore as flood relief to affected farmers of district

DC asks SDMs to expedite the process of disbursing this relief as healing touch to food growers

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates of Phillaur and Shahkot Sub Division to immediately start the process of disbursing compensation worth more than Rs 28.5 crore to the farmers for losses during the floods.Chairing a meeting of the Sub Divisional Officers and Revenue Officers here at District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has allocated Rs 28.5 crore for the loss during the floods in the district during the summers last year.He said that out of this Rs 21.90 crore would be for crop loss in Shahkot sub division, Rs 2.76 crore for crop loss in Nakodar Sub Division and Rs 2.19 crore for crop loss in Phillaur Sub Division. Likewise, Mr Sharma said that the state government has allocated Rs 1.37 crore for House damage, Rs 30.33 lakh for cattle loss and Rs 4 lakh to family of person who lost life during the floods.

The Deputy Commissioner said that this was a big reprieve to the residents of flood affected region and must be immediately disbursed to them. He said that the Sub Divisional Magistrates of Shahkot, Nakodar and   Phillaur Sub Division must personally ensure that this compensation was distributed at the earliest. Mr Sharma said that he would personally monitor the dispensation of this relief to people in time bound manner.The Deputy Commissioner said that this was healing touch by the state government and the farmers must be given this relief at the earliest. He said that the compensation would be disbursed as per the assessment done by the Revenue Officers and would be transferred directly into the account of the flood affected farmers. Mr Sharma categorically said that no laxity of any sort would be tolerated in this cause of immense public importance.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Amit Kumar, Dr Sanjiv Sharma, Dr Jai Inder Singh and Dr Vineet Kumar, Extra Assistant Commissioner Mr Amanpreet Singh, District Revenue Officer Mr Jashaneet Singh and others were also present.
