The two day State level training cum conference on National Sample Survey (NSS) 78th round organized by department of Economic and Statistics department begin here today, to train the field staff about the concepts, definitions, survey design and procedures. The NSS 78th round will cover the subject of “Domestic Tourism Expenditure” and “Multiple Indicator Survey”. The survey work will start from the last week of January, 2020 and will be completed by the end of December, 2020.The training programme was inaugurated by Economic Advisor Dr. Vinod Kumar Rana. In his introductory remarks, he highlighted the importance of this round of survey in developing a sound statistical database and said that the data generated by the survey would form an important input to planners, policy makers, researchers and various other agencies for monitoring and evaluation of policies at State and National level.He said that the main objective of the survey on “Domestic Tourism Expenditure” is to collect the detail information on tourism expenditure along with some information on household characteristics related to domestic overnight and same day trips. This information will be used to prepare the third Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.The other survey “Multiple Indicator Surveys” (MIS) is being conducted for the first time with the objective to collect information for developing some important indicators of Sustainable Development Goals 2030.The Economic Advisor appreciated the field staff for their hard work in challenging conditions and emphasized the need to maintain the standard of quality of NSS data. He said that NSS is a joint venture of the State and Centre Government and conducted by survey on matching sample basis. The survey will be conducted by State Government for 88 rural and 48 urban samples which are spread over the whole geographical area of the State.
Dr. Vinod Kumar Rana also appealed to the people of Himachal Pradesh to cooperate with the field staff of Economic and Statistics Department in providing them correct and authentic information as and when they visit their household.Joint Director, Economics & Statistics Department, Anupam Sharma also attended the conference.The training was imparted by Deputy Director, Economics & Statistics Department, B. S. Bist and Research Officer Ghanshyam Sharma to all the staff involved in National Sample Survey exercise of Himachal Pradesh.
