Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today said that Jammu and Kashmir has seen the highest number of sacrifices of soldiers on the borders and fighting insurgency, which will be always remembered.The Advisor was paying homage to war heroes and soldiers at Balidhan Stambh here on the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans’ Day.The Day is observed as a mark of respect and recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal KM Cariappa– the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces who retired on Jan 14 1953.The ceremony was organised by Sainik Welfare Board. Director Rajya Sainik Board, Brig (Retd) Harcharan Singh also spoke on the occasion.Members of NGOs, NCC, Scouts and Guides Cadets, Ex Servicemen and a large number of civil society members were present on the occasion.Advisor Khan said the day is an acknowledgment of selfless sacrifice of all the soldiers, who safeguard the boundaries and fight insurgency in the country.He underscored the need for showing sensitivity towards the issues being faced by war veterans, serving soldiers and their families. The Advisor, on the occasion, also laid a floral wreath at the Balidhan Stambh.At the event, a pledge was taken by the participants to support the sacrifices and valour of armed forces, create awareness on security environment, hazards of drug addiction and educate people about the importance of clean environment.
