Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu, Dr K S Risam today conducted field visit in the campus and took review of the various ongoing research projects.During the visit, the Vice Chancellor was briefed in detail about the projects taken up by the SKUAST (J) and results achieved so far under each project.Dr K S Risam asked the researchers to put in their sincere efforts to achieve desired results so that the farmer community is benefitted. He also discussed with the concerned officers the current weather phenomenon as against the normal conditions in Jammu sub-tropics and its consequences. He further deliberated on different technical feasibilities for under taking farming practice for the remaining Rabi season.

While interacting with the researchers, the Vice Chancellor laid stress on surface seeding and said that it needs to be recommended for the fields where wheat crop has failed to germinate due to the moisture present in the soil.He asked for making people aware about zero tilling sowing of wheat, where the fields are yet to be prepared. Further, he said that the fields should be cultivated as and when the adequate moisture condition are obtained. “It can be done till third week of January with selection of recommended late sown varieties in consultation with experts from University/Department,” he added. The Vice-Chancellor asked the concerned officers to aware the farmers about the alternative option available in case they fail to materialize sowing of wheat. He said that as alternative option, surface seeding of recommended Berseem cultivar, oats and barley as sole or in combination can also be taken up in the fields where wheat has not germinated yet.
