The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, on Tuesday, submitted memorandums to Punjab Government, in the entire state through the respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs), demanding scrapping of the one-sided and anti-people power purchase agreements (PPOs) entered into with private thermal plants by the then Badal government. The AAP, in its memorandum, reiterated quoting from the Congress Party’s election manifesto, that under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh ahead of the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress party had made certain promises, including the cancellation of agreements entered into with private thermal plants in the state and ordering auditing of the accounts of PowerCom during its  five years, which were never fulfilled. The AAP alleged that the Captain Amarinder Singh government had failed to fulfill any of the poll promises made in its manifesto,  which had led to the recurring hike in prices of electricity under pressure from the private power companies. The party alleged that the Badals government’s anti-state measures had led to the closure of the government thermal plants generating cheaper electricity by signing contracts with the private players, which involved a power scam worth crores of rupees. The AAP further added that Implementation of proposed hike in power tariff by 30 paise per unit from January 1, 2020, was the outcome of an installment of Rs. 1,400 crore on coal tariffs. Similarly, the balance amounting to Rs 1300 crore was expected to take place in the coming months, which would add more financial burden on the common consumers.Party MLA from Barnala, Meet Hayer, and convener of the party’s power front, said that Capt Amarinder Singh government needed to take a cue from the Kejriwal government in Delhi, which did not hike electricity rate during its 5-year tenure, rather became cheaper than before. He warned that if the Punjab government did not take correctives to reduce electricity rate in the first week of the New Year 2020, the AAP would be left with no choice but to ‘gherao’ captain CM Captain Amarinder Singh’s official residence, on January 7.Memorandums were submitted at Barnala, led under the leadership of Meet Hayer,  Hoshiarpur led by Krishan Singh Rouri,  Sangrur, under the leadership of district president, Rajwant Singh Ghulli, Bathinda under the leadership of district president, Navdeep Singh Jida
