151 Lady Ambassadors to highlight rights of girl child in Bandipora

In north Kashmir’s district Bandipora, recently constituted group of Lady Ambassadors today pledged to highlight rights of girl child across the district.The Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad today inaugurated Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week at Government Middle School Gorihajin Aragam.In the first phase of the week-long activities, 41 Panchayats of Bandipora and Arin block of the district celebrated the week. At Aragam, Deputy Commissioner formally inaugurated the programme by felicitating the meritorious female students and distributing baby-care kits to the mothers who gave birth to female child last week.The programme started with the organisation of Special Mahila Sabha which was chaired by Lady Ambassadors and female Panchayat members.The programme was attended by health workers, Anganwari workers, frontline workers of Government Departments, Pregnant Ladies and girls.Besides developmental issues, awareness about education, health and menstrual hygiene was imparted during the course of the programme.On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, said that the aim of celebrating the week is to celebrate the birth of girl child to ensure her education, good health and to generate awareness about the importance of girl child in society.He said the Ambassadors have been appointed for each Panchayat to give a message to the people that women is second to none as they have proved their metal in every field be it sports, education or politics.

He said during the week long activities, the female members of the society will get to know about the government schemes in place for the welfare of the female folk.He said the special discussions will also be held on the importance of Girl Child with special emphasis on negative impact of declining sex-ratio on the society.Mirza said the officials will reconcile the registered data of pregnant women and recorded births at Panchayat level.He said during the week long activities the government also aims at conducting afresh sex-wise data of births of the Panchayats and create awareness on existing government schemes related to women and girl child.DDC said five best performing Panchayats or School Management Committees with primary weightage to enrolment of drop out girls shall be felicitated and awarded with cash prize at district level functions.The week is being celebrated in three phases in the entire 151 Panchayats of Bandipora district and 151 lady ambassadors will visit the Panchayats and participate in the BBBP week activities. The lady ambassadors have been designated by the Deputy Commissioner.Notably, the first phase of BBBP week was celebrated in 41 Panchayats of Bandipora and Arin block while in second phase the week will be celebrated in 34 Panchayats of Hajin and Naidkhai block on January 01. The week will be celebrated in 34 Panchayats of Aloosa and Bonakoot block on January 02 while in eight Panchayats of Ganstan, Sumbal and Nowgam block the week will be celebrated on January 04.
