District SAS Nagar accords Warm refuge to the homeless in fifteen fully-working Night Shelters

Basic facilities are being provided to the needy: Deputy Commissioner

To beat the biting cold conditions persisted in the region, the SAS Nagar District Administration has set up 15 night shelters or Rain Basera at various locations for homeless.Deputy Commissioner Mr. Girish Dayalan apprised that with a motive to provide shelters to those who don’t have a place to spend the chilling nights in the freezing December cold, the administration has set up 15 night shelters at different locations of the district, where one can take a warm refuge in this bone chilling winters.Mr. Dayalan informed that one such shelter for urban homeless has set up near Dara Studio, Phase-6, where facilities like mattresses, beds, quilts, geysers, water supply, kitchen for self cooking is available.This shelter home can easily accommodate around 42 people at a time. He further said that three shelter homes are ready to accommodate 27 persons in Zirakpur. Out of which, one night shelter is in Community Center, Preet Colony, Ward No. 14, Zirakpur, second is in Community Center, Bhabat, Ward No. 24, Zirakpur and the third shelter home is under Zirakpur flyover to accommodate destitute people. He informed that facilities like water, electricity, toilets and beds etc. are available in these Shelters.Divulging details, the deputy commissioner said that other shelter homes have been set up in Banur (Municipal Council Office Ward No. 6), three homes in Dera Bassi (first Library Anaj Mandi Road, ward no 18, second Opposite Tehsil Complex ward no. 14 and third Fire Brigade Office ward no 5), Nayagaon (Adarsh Nagar), two in Kharar (first at Dharamshala village Fatehulanpur and second one at Municipal Stadium Darpan City Road), Kurali (Municipal Council Office), three in Lalru (MC Office, Community Center Dapper and Community Center Dehar). “We have accumulative space for around 130 people in night shelters and we provide all basic facilities i.e. water, electricity, toilets and beds etc. to shelter seeking in the district and we have been getting good response so far.” Mr. Dayalan added.
