Emphasizing the need for a blood bank in each district of Jammu and Kashmir, Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo today directed for immediate establishment of blood bank in the leftover districts of Reasi, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Shopian and the twin Super Specialty Hospitals of Srinagar and Jammu.He passed these directions while chairing a meeting to review the functioning of Blood Transfusion Council and Blood Services here.The meeting was attended by Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Renu Khajuria; Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K Bhupinder Kumar; Director (Coordination) New Medical Colleges Jammu, Dr Yashpal Sharma; State Drugs Controller Lokita Khajuria; Joint Director (Planning) H&ME, Madan Lal and other senior officers.Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Samir Mattoo along with other senior officers attended the meeting through video conferencing.The FC was informed that work for the establishment of blood banks in the leftover districts of Reasi, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Shopian is in progress and will be done very soon.A detailed power point presentation about the functioning of the blood banks in J & K was presented in the meeting.The FC issued a string of directions to the concerned authorities for ensuring the smooth functioning of blood banks.

Drug Controller J&K was directed to conduct the inspection for assessing the requirement for the establishment of the blood banks in the Super Specialty Hospitals on immediate basis.The FC also directed the authorities for maintaining coordination in respect of the functioning of blood banks and sharing of the information with NHM and State Blood Transfusion Council.It was stressed upon that the drug controller J&K be kept informed about the blood donation camps, which are being organized by the blood banks.The meeting was informed that 35 Blood Storage Units (BSU) and 25 Blood Banks are functional in J & K and progress is on to increase the number to cover uncovered areas. It was also given out that e-Rakhtkosh (digitization of blood banks) has been completed and the renewal of licenses of the blood banks is going on.In a separate meeting, Atal Dullo also reviewed the functioning of Trauma Centres and Burn Care Units in Jammu and Kashmir.The FC stressed the need for strengthening of the trauma centres to handle the trauma cases properly. He said that Burn Care Units in the Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu should be established on priority basis.The FC directed to make the Trauma Centres, being run on internal adjustment in various districts, fully functional so that trauma cases can be handled at the district level.
