Governor Bandaru Dattatraya has emphasized on the need of vibrant new India which has prosperity reaching common man in all walks of life ranging from social, economic and  technical spheres. It is possible with empowerment of youth who were equipped with modern technical education and able to serve the country with hard work.The Governor was  speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion of scholarship Award Distribution ceremony organized by Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam today.SJVN under its CSR initiative - ‘SJVN Silver  Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme’ has awarded scholarships to meritorious students of class 12th for academic session 2018-19, from the states of its operations. Today, 87  meritorious students of Himachal Pradesh were awarded scholarships at a function held at SJVN Corporate Head Quarters, Shimla. In addition to this, under the projects of SJVN  in other states of Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra and Gujarat would also be awarded remaining 63 Merit Scholarships for the year 2019 from their respective offices.On the  occasion, he said that the SJVNL was not only a reputed company in the power sector but also working towards its social responsibility obligations. He said that the scholarship  function was a unique and inspiring initiative in the field of education taken by the company. He said youth are the real wealth of the nation.He called upon the students to pursue  higher education with skill development. He also stressed the need to develop scientific temperament in students and focus on character building.Stressing on modernization  while preserving cultural values and heritage, Dattatraya said that India has a name in the world in computer science and digitization. 

Now, there was a need for development in the medical and agricultural sectors also. He expressed happiness that besides education sector the corporation was helping the local  students, farmers and people in skill development.While congratulating the students who received the scholarship, the Governor said that real education means overall  personality development. It includes better human qualities and associate people with such activities that make him gentle, alert and generous.He said that the amount of Rs.  2000 per month would be given as scholarship to those meritorious students, who have passed with high marks in class XII and are enrolled in engineering, medical, agriculture  etc. or other higher courses.Chairman-cum-Managing Director SJVNL Nand Lal honoured and welcomed the Governor on the occasion and said SJVN undertakes CSR and  Sustainability initiatives through SJVN Foundation. In the year 2012, SJVN Foundation launched Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme aiming to inculcate competitive spirit  among students and assist them in pursuing higher studies in different streams. He said that these meritorious students of class 12th were being selected from CBSE, ICSE and  State Education Board schools from the states of SJVN’s operations. These selected students were awarded a scholarship of Rs. 2,000 per month till completion of their course.  He said till date SJVN has awarded 1537 merit scholarships under this scheme with 828 male and 709 female students. Out of the total scholarships awarded, 412 students have  successfully completed their degrees, he added.Director, Personnel Geeta Kapoor, welcomed the Governor on the occasion and detailed about the scholarship scheme of the  corporation.Chief General Manager, Human Resource Development D.P. Kaushal, proposed a vote of thanks.Students from Government Senior Secondary School, Mehli  performed a cultural programme on the occasion. Director, Electric R.K Bansal, Director, Civil S.P Bansal, were also present along with other senior officials of SJVN.
