The students in the valley are back to the schools across Srinagar after remaining off from classrooms for over more than three months since August 5.This is after a gap of 120 days that students from first primary to Class 8 have joined their classes in some schools in Srinagar that have resumed their normal schooling activities. However, school buses of these schools don’t ply forcing the parents to take the responsibility of pick and drop of their children themselves.According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the schools in the valley were closed on August 5, the day centre abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the region into two separate Union Territories. However, the government in phased manner started re-opening of schools in phased manners. Though, apprehension from parents kept students away from classroom.Meanwhile from last one week, the institutions have asked students from lower classes to 8th class to come to their respective schools and resume their studies after giving home based assignment exams.“When I went to collect my wards result last week, I was told that the school has now started running classes”, Imran Bhat, a parent told KNO.Imran added, “It is a good step and now the communication has restored in the valley, parents now will be able to send their kids to school. There is no point in letting kids stay at home as lot of a time has been wasted”.There are many institutions who have starting running classes, while as there are many who have opted classes for just two days in a week.“I missed my class and it was good to be back here in the classroom. Though, we are in the schools only for two days in a week. But at the end we are back to where we belong”, said Mehwish a student.She added, “I hope situation remains normal now and schools are not shut again as they were since August 5”.“We decided to run the school twice a week and we talked with the parents and they were happy with the decision of the school authorities with the step”, said Majid Khan, principal of a private school told KNO.He further said that yes we told the parents not to bring children in school uniform as we feel situation is still little tense. And, within weeks we will tell them to come in uniform. Also, we have taken the decision of not plying school buses on the road taking security measures into consideration. (KNO)
