After bagging highest job offer in the region for engineering from one of the tech giants; B Tech final year student Tanya Arora at LPU has now been honoured at Google sponsored Asia's largest gathering of women technologists-the Grace Hopper Celebration India (GHCI) in Bangalore. The 10th Season celebrations were addressed by prominent personalities including CEO, Fable, Padmasree Warrior; President NASSCOM Debjani Ghosh; and, Managing Director, Deloitte, Beena Ammanath.On choosing India to annually organise the Grace Hopper Celebration conference after the parent event in the US, President and CEO of AnitaB.org, Brenda Darden Wilkerson hailed India as an important contributor to the tech industry. Named after American Computer Scientist Anita Borg; this non-profit organisation views technology innovation as a strategic imperative.Looking at dynamic Indian women like LPU’s Tanya Arora, Wilkerson also shared that Indian women are educated in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and have great aspiration for technology. Holding that “Women transform technology: Technology transforms the World”; GHCI connects, inspires and guides women in computing and organizations.The 2019 GHCI witnessed thousands of women technologists coming together to network, find support, and celebrate the achievements of women in tech. During the Celebration, Wilkerson spoke of the goal of reaching 50/50 tech equity by 2025. She acknowledged the progress made in India, where about one third of the IT sector is female. Brenda holds, “The US is actually behind India in tech equity ratio. We are proud of the progress women have made in India.”Feeling very proud on attending the all women tech conference, Tanya shares: “I am indeed fortunate in studying at LPU, which enabled me in grabbing prestigious job offer with a tech giant and now to get opportunity for attending Asia’s largest tech conference. I want to share with other students that LPU provides a plethora of opportunities for all students. It is only up to them how sooner and easier they make the most of it.”
