Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital Sangrur – the collaboration of Punjab government and Tata Memorial Center Mumbai–has emerged as a big relief to the cancer affected patients who now need not go to Bikaner for subsidized cancer treatment. The best of cancer treatment at subsidized rates is now available at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital Sangrur.Civil Surgeon Mansa Dr Lal Chand Thakral said while addressing media persons on the sidelines of five days workshop held to create awareness on prevention and treatment of cancer. The Punjab Health System Corporation, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital (HBCH) Sangrur and Tata Memorial Center (TMC) Mumbai are holding this event. During workshop medical officers, community health officers, ASHA workers, ANMs, GNMs and Anganwari workers were sensitized on ways to tell people about early detection of cancer.Dr Thakral added at HBCH Sangrur will soon be starting one day cancer OPD at the Civil Hospital Mansa to provide cancer treatment within the district itself. Talking about the facilities available at HBCH Sangrur he said that the chemotherapy medicines for cancer treatment were available at 67 percent subsidized rates. Also under the Punjab Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund, the patients are given free cashless treatment upto Rs 1.5 lacs.Responding to a media query he said that the incidence of cancer in Mansa was 57 patients for population of 1 lac. Government conducted door to door survey during which 450 cancer patients were registered at Mansa. As per the data available, more women have been detected suffering from cancer than men.Dr Pramod Kharade from HBCH Sangrur, mr Anbumani from TMC Mumbai, Dr Sharmila Pimple from TMC Mumbai, Dr Gauravi Mishra from TMC Mumbai, Mrs Pareshi Makumdar senior medical social worker, Mrs Anuradha senior medical social worker, Dr Dolorosa senior resident TMC Mumbai and Dr Vasundhara senior project manager TMC addressed the groups of people on vairous types of cancer, prevention and treatment.Besides this, Officiating Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajdeep Singh Brar, DMC Dr Ranjeet Singh Rai and others were also present.
