The second phase of the flagship Back to Village programme Wednesday started proceedings in seven new halqa panchayats in Srinagar where public participation and enthusiasm continued to be eager on the third day of the weeklong rural outreach programme of the government.Panchayat halqas where the two-day programme kicked off today include Nowgam-A and Nowgam B of Srinagar block, Khonmoh-C, Balhama-A and Balhama-B of Khonmoh block, and Dara-B and Theed-A of Harwan block.Public meetings and field visits by visiting officers made a range of specific developmental concerns of these halqas known. Some of the main grievances and demands for their redressal recorded at these halqas were inadequate irrigation and drainage, lack of appropriate educational and health facilities, and dilapidated distribution apparatus of power and potable water.In each of these seven halqa panchayats visiting officers were accompanied by officers from concerned government departments so as to ensure proper understanding and recording of grievances and concerns raised during the programme.The designated visiting officers of these halqas will again hold meetings and undertake field visits tomorrow at the end of which they will submit a compiled report of grievances to the office of the DC Srinagar for their redressal.
