To deal with the menace of stray dogs, Punjab's first of its kind 'Dog Pond' to come up in Mohali city. Punjab Cooperation and Jails Minister Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today asked the Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar Mr. Girish Dayalan and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mohali Mr. Kamal Kumar to find out the feasibilities for setting up of the dog pond pilot project and submit the draft report on next meeting.Presiding over a meeting of District Grievances Redressal Committee, SAS Nagar here at District Administrative Complex, Sector-76, the Chairman Mr. Randhawa, addressing the issue raised by MLA Kharar Mr. Kanwar Sandhu, said that people of the state are encountered with the problem of stray dogs and we are duty-bound to explore something relief-worthy for the people in the light of the verdict of the Supreme Court of India. "Possibilities should be found out to start Dog Pond pilot project to completely redress this problem and the same should be implemented in a time-bound manner", he directed. He categorically asked to Commissioner Municipal Corporation that the capacity of sterilization of dogs to be increased under the jurisdiction of the corporation.Mr. Randhawa, who was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Roopnagar Mr. Rahul Tewari, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Girish Dayalan and SSP Mr. Kuldip Singh Chahal, said that a gazzetted officer should be deputed on each village of the district to ensure the cleanliness at the ground level, which will also be responsible for any negligence. Underlining the complete disposal of crop residue for environmental conservation, the Cooperation Minister said that mutual coordination between cooperation and agriculture department can achieve better results in this direction.

Taking the issue of drug menace iron-handedly, Mr. Randhawa instructed to further strengthen the village-level committees. He said that participation of youth clubs should be ensured to wipe out the problem from the roots so as to break the supply line of drugs and create friendly environment for the treatment of those youngsters, who want to come in main stream by shunning drug-abuse.Mr. Randhawa also directed to shift Government Home for Destitute Children, Dusarna to Mohali city. Besides this, the issue of special exemptions to the all children homes, also discussed in the meeting. The minister pointed out that the single dedicated helpline for all the schemes of various departments under Mahatama Gandhi Sarbat Vika Yojana (MGSVY) should be established so that the beneficiaries could get all the information from one place. "It is also reviewed that the beneficiary, who filled up form under any scheme, has got the benefits of the same scheme or not", he added. Cooperation Minister asked to increase the inspections to ensure the quality of food items. The Cabinet Minister also stressed that problems of basic amenities in village and cities should be resolved on the priority. Discussing the development under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, he said that 24x7 drinking water supply project in village Singhpura to be further expended throughout the district.Presentations highlighting the achievements under various schemes given. 

Later, in Mahatama Gandhi Sarbat Vika Yojana (MGSVY) meeting, officials of the various departments such as Health, DPO, DDPO and Employment have given their power presentations of the achievements, work and future plans under different schemes. Expressed satisfaction on the working, the cooperation minister said that the work under various schemes should be accelerated in more transparent manner. The minister was apprised that this year there is 75 per cent reduction has recorded in dengue cases in district SAS Nagar as compared to the figures of last year, while no such case of Chikungunya reported. Reviewing the 'Smart Village Scheme', he emphasized to ensure the overhauling of the sewerage system in villages, pruning of trees, cleaning of ponds and concretized outer streets of the villages.            Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mrs. Aashika Jain, Political Secretary to Health Minister Mr. Harakesh Chand Sharma Machhli Kalan, Assistant Commissioner (General) Mr. Yashpal Sharma, SDM Kharar Mr. Himanshu Jain, SDM Mohali Mr. Jagdeep Saigal, Secretary Regional Transport Authority Mr. Sukhwinder Kumar and others were present during the meetings.
