American Oncology Institute (AOI) in partnership with Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences and Hospital (ASCOMS Hospital) today launched its exclusive Super Specialty Cancer Hospital at Jammu.Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo was the chief guest on the occasion while Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma was the guest of honour.Describing the partnership between two premier health institutions AOI and ASCOMS, a wonderful achievement, Atal Dullo said that this step will bridge the gap between the quality cancer treatment available in India and other leading countries of the world. He said that the government is committed for providing better health care services to the people and is ready to attract tertiary health care facilities.The FC said that proper early detection of cancer is the key for success and said if that happens, only then the availability of tertiary care facilities will bear fruit. He also said that State Cancer Institute which is being established in Jammu will also go a long way in providing better health care facilities for cancer patients.Speaking on the occasion, Group CEO South Asia, AOI, Dr Jagprag Singh said that over the last few years, technology-driven improvements in diagnosis and treatment has significantly improved survival rates.

Commenting on the event, Director Principal, Dr Pawan Malhotra ASCOMS said that together with AOI our Cancer care Unit will commence operations to provide world class cancer care to the people of J&K. He said that the partnership will bring together experience of top oncologists from across the globe, coupled with the finest infrastructure, which will help in bridging the gap in cancer care delivered in J&K.Joint Secretary, ASCOMS, D K Batra said that the facility has come at a time when cancer cases in J&K are on the rise due to the use of tobacco and other products, unhealthy lifestyle and lack of awareness at early stages. He said that the cancer hospital will provide all the required treatment under one roof at affordable cost.The launch ceremony was also marked with unveiling of Umeed logo, symbolizing the vibrant hopes to fight against cancer by cancer patients and Roshini logo, the aim of which is to promote prevention of cancer in females. Other dignitaries who were present on the occasion include, Director New Medical Colleges, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director NHM J&K Bhupinder Kumar, CEO Mission Youth and Additional Secretary Finance, Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Principal New Medical College Jammu, Sunanada Raina, V P ASCOMS, H L Maini, Mayor Jammu Chandan Mohan and others.
